A visit from the Animal Man at Shropshire’s Children’s Forum
We had a brilliant turnout for September’s ‘Get-2-Gether’ in Shropshire and everyone seemed to enjoy the creepy crawlies the Animal Man brought along with him. Some of us were slightly more wary than others (including Rosie who managed to drop a cockroach on the floor!!) but most got really into the spirit of the afternoon and ended up with frogs crawling over their face, lizards attached to their t-shirts and one young person had at least 4 snakes wrapped round him at one point!!!
Lets hope our Christmas ‘Get-2-Gether’ is as well attended.
Shropshire carers are very clever carers!

Shropshire carers are incredibly clever carers! A whopping 17 carers have completed their NVQ 3 in Child Care, a further 4 carers are near completion, 5 are working their way through their diploma and are more that ½ way through it and 3 have recently started. We just want to pass on our congratulations to those who are qualified, and our encouragement to those who are working through it. We are immensely proud of all your hard work and achievements. Well done!
Young People’s Focus Groups

Shropshire Office have begun focus groups where young people from fostering families over the age of 13 are invited to discuss certain documents that directly involve them. We want to ensure that the most important people got to have involvement, views and opinions on how best to make our documents meaningful to those of a similar age and situation. We currently have a group of 6 over 13’s working towards re-designing our Independent Living Skills Workbook. All participants have worked really hard and been open and honest about how they feel about what needs to be included in this working tool for them and others. We are hoping to roll the workbook out to other young people by next year.

Son’s and Daughters Week 2011
This year to celebrate ‘Kids that Foster’ week the Shropshire Office wants to get an insight into a week in the life of all those son’s and daughters of foster parents.
Birth Children of foster parents do an amazing job which is as important as that which the carers do themselves. So we would love to hear about your week giving us an insight in your everyday life and is totally focused on you.
The Shropshire Office are not only celebrating ‘Kids that Foster’ week by asking that the ‘Week in the life of……’ diaries to be completed but we’re also holding a competition where children of foster parents design a thank you certificate which will then be sent out to all ‘Kids that Foster’. The winner will be announced at our Birth Children’s forum on Sunday 30th October.
