Southern Counties Summer Event
August 4th, 2010Southern Counties go to Knockhatch Adventure Park
Saturday 26th of June 2010
This was our first regional social event and this year our chosen venue was Knockhatch Adventure Park! It was a wonderful sunny summer’s day and we had a lovely turnout of about 20 adults and 21 children.
There was limited shelter from the blazing sun and at some point in the afternoon the heat became too much for Nikki Mordaunt and she decided to take a dip in the lake (sadly this photo opportunity was missed by Pam).
The Aqua slide was a firm favorite that I am sure Jordan would have spent all day on had he been able to. The birds of Prey display was also enjoyed by all!
Thanks for joining us and we hope that you will let us have any helpful feedback that you may want to pass on to us along with your ideas for future events!
Skills to Foster at Essex
August 4th, 2010Skills to Foster Update – Essex
Ingrid Dias and Deborah Austin have recently presented the Skills to Foster training in Brentwood, (A first in the Essex area)! It was great to have 2 applicants join us from the South London / Kent area too.
The applicants enjoyed an exciting and interesting weekend with lots of learning, discussion and debate and of course the lovely food!! It is hoped that we will have 4 assessments to start shortly in Essex, which will be a positive and well needed addition to the hard working, experienced carers that already exist in the area.
We are hoping to run a second Skills to Foster course in Essex later this year in October.
We would also like to thank our guests that attended over the course of the weekend – Richard Ladipo, Yvonne Pennifold and Pritipa Dante.

Summer Events
July 30th, 2010‘On one of the hottest days in July the South London and Kent Orange Gove Team and devoted family members were faithfully representing OG at a local community fair at Lewisham Peoples Day. Michelle later joined as staff came and left. We looked very bright and Orange as our stall attracted many passersby. The fresh cold orange juice, Clementines, balloons and Feargal’s magic tricks helped to attract potential carers. From this we have achieved great responses that are being followed up.’ Janet Daby
Chessington World of Adventures Summer Event
‘On a lovely sunny Saturday in June many of our foster families enjoyed a wonderful day out with Janet and Michelle at Chessington world of adventures. The rides were fun and everyone had a fabulous time!’ Janet Daby
Shropshire’s Summer Barbeque
July 29th, 2010A Summer of Fun in Shropshire!
A Summer BBQ has been arranged for all carers, birth children and Variety Pack members in the Shropshire area. We’re providing the entertainment and Barbeque food and all we ask of the carers is to bring along a scrumptious dish to share!

Reccy Rangers are also coming along to do some arty, crafty things with the young people.
A poster will be sent out to all carers with details of the BBQ and the venue so watch this space.
CWDC Standards Training
July 20th, 2010CWDC Standards Training
CWDC Standards provide foster carers with a national benchmark to evidence their professional development and to evidence how they continue to meet the five Outcomes of Every Child Matters for each child or young person they care for. Orange Grove Foster Care is an agency committed to training their carer’s to a high level of skill and knowledge base.
East Yorkshire Orange Grove Office supports their carers in the completion of their CWDC Portfolios by offering specific Portfolio Building Workshops twice a month. These sessions are interactive and informative and allow carers the forum to share their skills, experiences and wealth of knowledge. Each session specifically covers one of the seven standards. They incorporate group discussions, group and individual exercises and information gathering tasks. At the completion of each standard carer’s are provided with a Certificate of Evidence and a Supporting Statement which details the areas that have been covered.
We offer two sessions a month as we recognize the many other commitments carers have in their busy schedules. All of the sessions are within school hours, 10am -12noon.
Hotshots Olympics
July 15th, 2010Hotshots Olympics
Kieran took part in this year’s Hotshots Olympics which was held in the Local David Llyod’s Gym. Hotshots laid on a day of fun athletics to give children from Special schools a chance to show what they can do. Kieran took part in: Javelin, Chest push, standing long jump and a Slalom race. After a day of fun and learning new skills he came away with a medal and certificate.
From all at Orange Grove East Yorkshire we would like to say a
BIG CONGRAULATIONS to Kieran
Northwest Apprentice ……….
July 9th, 2010We’re sure most of you watched Junior Apprentice this year …… Very exitingly Emma Walker, who is the daughter of our Northwest Carers reached the semi-finals.
Here, Emma explains her experience …..
Junior Apprentice now feels like a distant dream that took place over 9 months ago. It was the most challenging, testing and difficult experience of my life so far, yet I have learnt more about business over those 6 weeks than over my entire 17 year life. However, learning who I am has been the most worthwhile of it all.
I bowed out of the programme week 5 after an amazing task that took me and the remaining candidates to Amsterdam. I feel I was the deserving of the firing finger and following a gripping final, Arjun Rajyagor was crowned the winner. Being fired in the semi-final allowed me to experience all 6 amazing tasks which lead me to meet inspirational people such as Sir Richard Branson.
Since the programme, I have grown and flourished and I find myself busier than ever. Before, not being too confident, I would turn down opportunities. Now, I grasp every one that comes my way with both hands – you never what will come from it. I have just finished my AS levels at South Lancashire College studying Business Studies, Economics, Government and Politics. Next year I will be moving on to The National Enterprise Academy where I hope to further expand my knowledge in business.
My advice to any young person with any ambition is to work hard, very hard. And don’t stop until you get there. To listen to advice, but not necessarily act on it. To never, ever give up, or give in. To fight for what you believe in, but to be polite always.

Under 5’s Play and Development Group
July 7th, 2010Under 5’s Play and Development Group
Orange Grove East Yorkshire’s Play and Development group has been running for 2 weeks. The Sessions have involved a lot of Play and Messy Play (Paint’s, Sticking, colouring, sand & Water). We have also had use of the sensory room that is also in the Children’s centre, which the children loved.
We found that this is a great time for Carers and Children to get together and interact with each other. And was enjoyed by all (even the staff).
