Orange Grove sponsors Three Peaks Challenge
Orange Grove Fostercare, has recently scaled the heights in supporting a team from Kidderminster that has successfully completed the 3Peaks challenge whilst raising substantial funds for 3 major Charities.
The 3Peaks challenge requires those participating to climb each of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, respectively the highest points within Scotland, England and Wales, within a single 24-hour period. The team of 9 walkers, which included foster carers as well as others from a variety of backgrounds, tackled the challenge in order to raise as much money as possible for their nominated charities of MacMillan Cancer Support, Tiny Babies Big Appeal, and the British Lung Foundation. Totally exhausted, but elated, the team eventually descended from Snowdon, the final peak, with barely 30minutes to spare.
Team leader Jonathan McAdam stated “what started out a great idea initially proposed over a beer, turned into the hardest thing – both physically and mentally – that I’ve ever attempted. What kept the whole team going was an absolute determination that we would not let down those charities – or indeed, any of the people who had chosen to support us!! Each of us would like to take this opportunity to thank those corporate sponsors such as Orange Grove as well as so many people – family, friends and even complete strangers – who have supported us individually”
In presenting their cheque, Tony Myers, Director of Fostercare at Orange Grove, said “what impressed us most was the level of planning undertaken by the team, alongside the necessary physical training. Then when things got really tough, the team demonstrated a remarkable determination to work together to achieve their common objective. This involved providing a very high level of support to each other, so that, ultimately, all members of the team were able to enjoy a successful outcome, quite literally crossing the finishing line together.
In this, we see so many similarities with those types of challenges that our own carers often face. Recognising this especially, we would like to add our formal congratulations to the whole team on achieving the objectives they set themselves and in so doing raising such a magnificent sum for these 3 Charities”.
